The Ordinary: $4.19M in Recorded Amazon Marketplace Sales

A 9.30× year-over-year sales comparison, backed by 138,267 units ordered and an archived Amazon Seller Central report.

Growth in a competitive beauty category is rarely one-dimensional. Stronger search relevance, convincing product presentation, competitive offers, and disciplined promotion must support the same commercial goal: turning demand into sales. This case highlights FBA Venture's work on an Amazon beauty engagement and the scale of marketplace performance recorded during the 2024 reporting period.

The opportunity

Make every growth lever work together

In Beauty & Personal Care, visibility alone is not enough. Products also have to earn the click, communicate their value quickly, and make the purchase decision compelling. The engagement focused on bringing the major drivers of marketplace performance into a more connected strategy.

The commercial priorities were clear:

  • Reach relevant shoppers. Concentrate advertising on the queries and audiences most closely aligned with product demand.
  • Turn traffic into consideration. Strengthen product-page messaging, creative and A+ content so listings communicate benefits clearly.
  • Keep offers competitive. Review pricing and positioning in the context of the category and shopper expectations.
  • Capture timely demand. Coordinate promotional opportunities with merchandising and advertising activity.

The approach

The FBA Venture approach

FBA Venture’s work connected four commercial workstreams into one coordinated marketplace strategy.

  • 01

    Sharper Advertising Targeting

The advertising approach centered on relevant, high-intent search opportunities rather than visibility for its own sake. The objective was to direct traffic toward products with a clear reason to win the purchase.

  • 02

    A Stronger Product-Page Experience

Listings, benefit-led copy, imagery and A+ content were treated as part of the conversion journey. The goal was to make the offer easier to understand and better aligned with shopper intent.

  • 03

    Pricing and Offer Positioning

Offer competitiveness was assessed alongside perceived product value. Pricing decisions were approached as a commercial lever, not as an isolated tactic.

  • 04

    Coordinated Promotional Execution

Timed deals and promotional opportunities formed part of the account's broader demand-capture strategy. Advertising, offer presentation and promotional timing were considered together rather than as separate activities.

The results

A much larger marketplace sales base

$3.74M more in recorded sales. The dashboard shows a difference of $3,738,179.56 between the matched periods.

829.55% year-over-year growth. The later period recorded 9.30 times the marketplace sales of the earlier one.

138,267 units ordered. Unit volume also expanded substantially, from 7,292 in the earlier period.

The screenshot additionally records 129,174 order items and $32.43 average sales per order item for January–August 2024. Those are order-item metrics; they should not be represented as distinct customer orders or average customer order value.

Evidence

The evidence behind the numbers

The archived Amazon Seller Central Sales Dashboard shows the selected date range, the marketplace-total reporting scope, the ordered product sales and unit totals, and the comparison with the same period one year earlier.

The report documents recorded marketplace performance. It is not a standalone measure of profit or a controlled estimate of how much sales growth any single tactic caused.

Why it matters

What this case demonstrates

The result shows how dramatically marketplace demand and sales volume can differ between corresponding reporting periods. It also highlights why an Amazon growth strategy cannot be evaluated through a single metric or channel in isolation.

For brand operators, the more useful question is how advertising relevance, product-page conversion, offer positioning and promotion support one another as the business grows.
